Wikipedia

Parkour (French pronunciation: [paʁˈkuʁ]) (abbreviated PK) is a physical discipline of movement focused on overcoming obstacles. It uses no equipment and is non-competitive. Developed in France by David Belle, it is a method of training the human body to become stronger, more agile and more efficient. Participants learn to pass diverse obstacles by combining a variety of movements like running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, leaping, and rolling. A male parkour practitioner is called a traceur, a female a traceuse.

Parkour’s modern history began in the 1920s, though similar movements can be found in the Eastern martial arts ninjutsu and qing gong. Georges Hébert began teaching the fundamental movements related to parkour during this time, and eventually the training became the standard for the French military. David and Raymond Belle would expand on Hébert’s work, and David would eventually found the Yamakasi group, the first group dedicated to parkour.
