Voixtronik 2011

My entry for the 2011 Voixtronik remix contest. The track is a mashup of minimal electronic beats combined with processed yodeling. It was selected to take part in the contest finals.

German Description

Gatterer ist ein kurzes Experiment, bei dem traditionelle, vokale Volksmusik mit modernen elektronischen Beats und Glitches verbunden wird. Das Wort Gatterer stammt aus dem Bayrischen und ist ein lästernder Ausdruck für eine Person, die undeutlich spricht. Der Titel wurde deshalb gewählt, weil in der Gesangsspur meist nur Vokale und ähnliche Laute vorherrschen, die flächige, kräftige Sounds erzeugen und durch Effekte weiter moduliert werden. Dadurch ist der ursprüngliche Wortlaut nicht mehr nachvollziehbar, der Track dadurch aber umso spannender, da sich interessante rhythmische Strukturen ergeben.

What happens when traditional Alpine folk music and electronic music meet?

We pose this question to all who are interested in participating in the 2011 Voixtronik remix contest. Two traditional Austrian Alpine folk music sound sample packs (instrumental and vocal/yodl) are provided to experiment with in an electronic form and to create something entirely new -namely Voixtronik.

The Voixtronik remix contest offers innovative sound researchers and composers the possibility to transfer selected traditional Alpine folk songs to the context of today’s contemporary electronic music culture. …

The project aims to promote reflection and innovation through the experimentation of traditional music with modern electronic means.
